Depression Assessment – Supporter

This page offers a way to reflect on chronic depression symptoms in another adult. It is a reflection tool for people thinking about a friend, partner, colleague, or family member whose low mood, exhaustion, hopelessness, withdrawal, or loss of interest may have become a longer-running pattern. If you want to explore your own symptoms instead, try our companion Chronic Depression Assessment – Myself.

Like our self-assessment version, this page is for reflection and learning – not for diagnosis. The most reliable understanding will always come from open, respectful conversation with the person themselves, alongside professional help where needed.

Chronic depression supporter assessment form is coming soon.

Scoring and interpretation

This supporter questionnaire is intended to help you reflect on whether someone shows a pattern of symptoms that could be consistent with chronic depression. It is not a diagnostic tool, and observations should be treated as prompts for care and curiosity rather than conclusions.

Chronic depression can show up in many different ways: sadness, numbness, irritability, slowed thinking, low energy, withdrawal, hopelessness, loss of enjoyment, or difficulty managing everyday life. A questionnaire like this can help you notice patterns, but it cannot tell you the whole story of what someone is carrying or what support they need.

Note: These tools are screening instruments, not diagnostic tests.
If this page feels relevant, the most helpful next step is usually to learn more about chronic depression in a respectful, evidence-aware way and to approach the person with care, honesty, and practical support rather than labels.
